Warehouse 13, I am VERY disappoint. Spoilers here )
bardic_lady: (starbuck - excuse me?)
Okay, seriously Covert Affairs? Annie should be so SO fired. I don't care what else is going on. She's a loose cannon, she's getting people killed, she goes scampering off on her own, she disobeys orders on a whim, she leads her co-workers into disobeying orders, and she can't seem to prioritize her job and her oath over the guy she fucked around with in Sri Lanka, she is a danger to herself and the CIA for as long as she stays on staff.

Day 07 - Least Favorite Episode of Your Favorite TV Show
There are only 18 episodes of Slings & Arrows! That's barely a season of anything else! And to be perfectly honest, none of them are AWFUL. Probably episode three or four of season 2. It slowed down a bit there as Henry Breedlove was so ghastly he wasn't even funny ghastly. But really, there's still a great deal to be said for season 2. There's Joanne Kelly now of Warehouse 13 as Juliet! And she's tiny and adorable and eventually even Darren Nichols succumbs to letting her be adorable. And then the whole cast of R&J gets naked in the dark and gropes each other with glow paint. BRILLIANT.

Day 06 - Favorite Episode of Your Favorite TV Show
That's easy. The third episode of the first season of S&A. With the sword fight and Bob Martin getting drunk with Paul Gross and Maria's amazing stage manager monologue... I love it to teeny tiny pieces. As [livejournal.com profile] lornelover will tell you, because I gush about it ALL THE TIME. So much love.

Day 05 - A show you hate
This one was actually really hard for me, because it seems unfair to pick something I've never seen (Bill O'Reilly, The Bachelor/ette, Jon and Kate Plus 8) but... I really don't watch things I hate, that's why I have a remote and DVDs. On reflection, I have decided to go with 24, specifically this past season which made no sense and in which the actors were not told what their character arcs were, which explains why so often it seemed like characters turned on a dime with no motivation. But I didn't really hate it, I just stopped watching it.

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever
It's a solid tie (for completely different reasons, obviously) between Slings & Arrows and Mr. Rogers's Neighborhood.
S&A is absolutely my favourite adult show. The combination of humour and pathos and the absolute truth of the theatre setting make it just brilliant, the Shakespeare is just icing.
On the other hand, I grew up on Mr. Rogers. It's smart, not patronizing, and espouses values that, honestly, everyone could stand to review.

Day 03 - Your Favorite New Show (aired this TV season)
It's so hard to define "this season" now. With midseason pickups and summer season, it's all sort of a jumble. I guess I can identify four shows that I would consider from "this season", emcompassing the last regular season and this summer season, Glee, Justified, Rizzoli & Isles, and Covert Affairs. Glee I only watch semi-regularly because the plots make me crazy and the continuity is for shite. I basically watch it for the musical numbers. Justified I watched all in one go and I did find it well-written, but it's not a whole lot of fun. I love the premise of Rizzoli & Isles. I love the slashiness of Rizzoli & Isles. The writing on Rizzoli & Isles is rather shite and that makes it unlikely that I'll make it through the season. Covert Affairs suffers from similar issues of writing, a lack of wit and common sense that makes it sort of painful, so that one'll likely go as well. Which, by process of elimination, makes Justified my favourite, I guess.

Day 01 - A Show That Should Never Have Been Cancelled
Yeah, it's the obvious one, the one everyone talks about, but... It's also the good answer. Firefly. It was funny and smart and perfectly cast. It had an interesting story and engaging characters, the world was well-fleshed out... It was an awesome awesome show. And maybe it would've suffered from second season slump and gotten unfunny, like Serenity and Joss would've killed off the characters everyone loved just because he could. But... we'll never know now. And that, I think, is the major tragedy.

To update, since it's been awhile, I am back in Victoria for two months of no particular time committments. To take the place of my usual busyness, I have lists of other things to do. We'll see what I actually accomplish.

Cut for length )

Another post to come, tomorrow perhaps, about the LMDA conference in Banff.

Feminism, it's not just for women...

So, CBS has decided, as a cost-cutting measure, to fire AJ Cook and dramatically reduce the role of Paget Brewster on Criminal Minds. Leaving one full time female character. *HEADDESK* If you find this deeply annoying, consider signing this petition. Please.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!
bardic_lady: (dollhouse - jamie yum)
Damnit, Joss. I didn't even like the damned show and you've still got me sobbing.
bardic_lady: (wall-e - robot overlords)
Dollhouse is officially cancelled.

As is Eastwick (yay!)

Let's get these talented people something other than dreck to work on, huh?

Today is the last new episode of Reading Rainbow.

No one is willing to pay to re-up the show's broadcasting rights, in part, according to NPR, due to the shift in educational standards under the Bush administration. Because Reading Rainbow doesn't actually teach kids how to read, it has been deemed unworthwhile.

One more reason to hate W.

I wish I had a TV so I could watch the last episode...

Hey, I fail at update!

Um... Ducks shut out the Sharks last night. Boo. Yah. Take that, Nabby. The announcers persist in talking about Getz and Perrs as 'twin brothers', when it's very clear that they are boyfriends.
*In other news around the NHL, Scott Hartnell is a big 'ole butt, I apparently dislike the Sedins more than I realized, little Chris Kunitz is a daddy now and playing nicely for the Pens on the wing of the Bits, and I had higher hopes for the Blue Jackets than Game 1 showed. With the exception of the Hawks, I favour the underdog teams in the West, without exception, I prefer the overdog(?) teams in the East. So, I'm for the Chicago Blackhawks, the St. Louis Blues, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Anaheim Ducks, in the West, and the Boston Bruins, the Washington Capitals, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. (I just don't care about the Devils-Hurricanes series. If pressed, I'd call it for the Devils, but I really don't care.)

I'm in the dead waiting time on an internship in DC and grad school. *twiddles thumbs and frets*

Looking forward to the BSG Prop Auction Redux coming up in a few weeks, as well as the Ron Moore WGA event I bought my ticket for today.

Am considering picking up a new TV show. You be the judge: NCIS or the BBC's Robin Hood?

Chocolate Peppermintini is great when made with vanilla vodka. Hee hee.

Things that are pretty cool:

*The writer/exec producer of Leverage has a blog. A funny cool blog in the style of Bear McCreary's blog, except with audience participation.

*He wrote the teleplay for the Eureka ep with the Midsummer references. (Downside, he also wrote the story for Transformers and the screenplay for Catwoman. No one plays all shutouts, I guess.)

*So far, for my birthday, I have received a Ducks full team autographed jersey (AWESOME!) and a shadow box to keep it in, a full length black velvet cloak, rhinestone bra straps (from my MOTHER), a souvenir program book from the movie 1776, and a decorative humidifier/fountain with color changing lights inside.

*My giftmas shopping is DONE. Now I have to get the five boxes out into the mail. Monday, probably.

Today is FIRING DAY!

I don't use the word 'fired' lightly, being among the recently terminated. But today is firing day. I'm hoping that, like New Year's Eve, this is an out with the old, in with the new kind of thing, but only tomorrow will tell. For now, the fired list:

Yes on Prop. 8
The campaign which tells us that legalising tolerance is a bad thing. That reminds us that moral judgements are more important than equal rights. Fired.

Charles Todd, NBC News Political Director
Dear Chuck Todd, NBC News Political Director,
If you think that John McCain's "plight" is "tragically Shakespearean", you have clearly never read or seen Shakespeare.
Kthxdie.
Vavia
P.S. Your severance package will consist of one (1) copy of Shakespeare's Complete Works. Give 'em a read.

ABC Network (the whole thing)
Firing of half of the only lesbian couple on network TV, and then forcing the show creator who didn't want to fire her to cover for it, and de-bisexualizing another character at the same time? Buh-bye.

Alaska's State Personnel Board
How is it humanly possible to declare Sarah Palin not guilty of a breach of ethics in Troopergate? Are you human?

Las Vegas Costume Contests
For not declaring [livejournal.com profile] sparklegirl79's AWESOME Ursula costume the winner it so obviously is.

All of the above and many others are hereby escorted from the building by security and will not be given positive references. Thank you.

I'd also like to announce one NEW HIRE to the [livejournal.com profile] dramaturgca Board of People Who Are Cool.

Congressman Rush Holt, Jr. of the New Jersey 12th District, for being the only Quaker in the House and for being a physicist who issues bumper stickers which say "My Congressman IS a rocket scientist".

Sweet! I got a spot at the Emmy BSG screening at the Arclight with panel by cast members and writers and suchlike stuff. Very Very Awesome.

I Cannot Hide What I Am

I must be sad when I have cause and smile
at no man's jests, eat when I have stomach and wait
for no man's leisure, sleep when I am drowsy and
tend on no man's business, laugh when I am merry and
claw no man in his humour...
I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in
his grace, and it better fits my blood to be
disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob
love from any: in this, though I cannot be said to
be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied
but I am a plain-dealing villain. I am trusted with
a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I
have decreed not to sing in my cage. If I had my
mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do
my liking: in the meantime let me be that I am and
seek not to alter me.
