So, it's had more than a week to sink in, and I've been lacking in cheery posts, so it's time to recap December 10, Pencils2Moguls Day.
I, as a strong proponent of the writers in the WGA strike, volunteered to be one of the fans who helped deliver the 550,000 pencils that fans bought in support of the WGA to the the studio heads. I drove out to Burbank a week ago Monday morning (I'm getting really familiar with the route to Burbank) and met up with the other fans and the writers in Johnny Carson Park. I met the primary fan-draw writers, Ron Moore, Jane Espenson, and Joss Whedon. Jane was doing "bring an actor to strike" and so Danny Strong, who played Jonathan on
Buffy was there, too. *FANGIRL SQUEE OF DOOM* Somehow, Jane and I ended up talking about Danny's ears and whether they were proportional...Meanwhile, Danny jokingly espoused turning over cars.
I TALKED TO RON MOORE. I ASKED HIM A QUESTION. HE SAID IT WAS A COOL IDEA AND HE'D POSE IT TO THE WRITERS!!! If anything about how Starbuck and Apollo got their callsigns shows up in s4...that was ME!!!!
Anyway, I walked behind Ron, Joss, and Jane all the way from NBC to Disney and we stood there on a street corner and ALL FOUR OF US geeked out about
GalaxyQuest! AND THEY WERE GEEKIER THAN ME!! Joss was talking about Guy and quoting at the top of his voice (which I definitely did too...) and Ron said that when he first saw it, when they got to the part with the fan kids navigating Commander Taggart and Madison through the ship, Terry turned to him and was like "That's you, isn't it?" EEEEEEEEE!!!
After Disney had refused the pencils too (I've never been ordered off a property by cops before. Clearly I'm doing something wrong) I went up to Joss, he complimented my jewelry, and I asked if I could shake his hand. We shook and then he said "I'm upping the ante" and he HUGGED ME. JOSS WHEDON HUGGED ME!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
I walked back to my car with a woman who's been writing for Power Rangers for sixteen years and we talked about the sci-fi fantasy scene and how PR fits into it and it was actually very interesting.
I will definitely go out and join the picket line again, possibly Thursday, if te rain lets up. I don't mind striking in the rain, I'm less sure about driving an hour in it.
So that's my story of how my life was made and
( here are the pics that prove it. )
