Un meme de [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe:

Name a work of fiction - book, movie, tv show, whichever; obscure is fine and welcomed, as long as you know that I know it - and whatever the next song is that comes up randomly on my iTunes after I see your comment, I will describe to you the plot of the amazingly angsty songfic that would emerge from this combination! As a bonus, if the song is uploadable, I will upload it for you when I get home from work.

Example: You say, "The Cat in the Hat;" the next song that comes up on my iTunes is "Don't Fear the Reaper"; clearly, this would generate a fic about the Cat trying to talk the fish into letting the Cat dump him out of his bowl, leaving his confined life for a passionate and freeing death!

(And then by the rule of the internet, of course, that fic will spring spontaneously into existence, but we can ignore that bit.)

And iTunes gives me... "I've Been Working on the Railroad". *facepalm* Hang on, must limit shuffle.

Okay. Better now. "When the Winter's Gone (Song for a Stranger)"

This is a story about after Hero dies in childbirth and Claudio wanders the world a shadow of his former self, until he goes to France and meets Helena of Rousillon, whose annoying husband just died and they fall in love and have a much more contented and mature relationship.

It'a a metaphor!

About how relationships are hard after you get past the first blush of "I love you, you whore, augh she's dead and she was a virgin, marrying her cousin who's really her, I LOVE YOU" phase. And Claudio isn't sure about being married and settling down anymore but then Leonato takes him out into the olive orchards at dawn and talks to him about running a city and Claudio sees the benefits of hard work and goes and finds Hero in the kitchen and then they done sex hooray!

Apparently I'm not so good at angsty.

I Cannot Hide What I Am

I must be sad when I have cause and smile
at no man's jests, eat when I have stomach and wait
for no man's leisure, sleep when I am drowsy and
tend on no man's business, laugh when I am merry and
claw no man in his humour...
I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in
his grace, and it better fits my blood to be
disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob
love from any: in this, though I cannot be said to
be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied
but I am a plain-dealing villain. I am trusted with
a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I
have decreed not to sing in my cage. If I had my
mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do
my liking: in the meantime let me be that I am and
seek not to alter me.
