Sure, let's play:

Reply to this entry with your name and post these instructions in your own journal. I will go poke around your list of interests on your profile and ask you one question about one of them. You wax rhapsodic on the subject of your interest for the edification of all and we'll learn something keen about you.

Or in simple terms:

Reply to this meme, I'll pick one of your interests, and you tell me a whole bunch of stuff about it and we all learn a bit more.

Let's do this thing!

Every library should have one! When I own a bookstore, or possibly manage a library, I shall institute one. It's a pub. Adjacent to a library. You can check out books and go read them in the pub. It attracts a literate clientele, and inspires many book-related discussions. Also, you can easily get the pint or four that one really requires to get through Ulysses. The drop box is right by the taps.

Strangers in Paradise is an Eisner-winning graphic novel series by Terry Moore. Its main focus is the adult friendship shared by Francine Peters, an all-American girl; her best friend Katina Choovanski, better known as Katchoo; and David Qin, a sensitive guy who's in love with Katchoo but often feels like a third wheel. In addition to the human drama and humor of regular friendships, the ongoing story also deals with Katchoo and David's past involvement with organized crime, and the series has strayed into action-thriller a few times. The series' website describes Strangers in Paradise as "real life, just kicked up a notch."

I haven't kept up with the series for about a year now; at the time I left off, I was starting to feel a bit disenchanted with it. Despite Moore's excellent characters and artistic abilities, there's only so much human drama you can have in ten years before it starts to get a bit repetitive. I need to get back into the story so I can make a more informed opinion. Anyway, the first ten or twelve volumes are terrific.

I Cannot Hide What I Am

I must be sad when I have cause and smile
at no man's jests, eat when I have stomach and wait
for no man's leisure, sleep when I am drowsy and
tend on no man's business, laugh when I am merry and
claw no man in his humour...
I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in
his grace, and it better fits my blood to be
disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob
love from any: in this, though I cannot be said to
be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied
but I am a plain-dealing villain. I am trusted with
a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I
have decreed not to sing in my cage. If I had my
mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do
my liking: in the meantime let me be that I am and
seek not to alter me.
