bardic_lady: (takarazuka - wao phantom)
[personal profile] bardic_lady
I suppose, as I rabidly run about buying up 'Zuka, that I should explain why I'm suddenly so obsessed. It isn't just that I'm a nutcase, really. It's looking extremely likely that my not!thesis (20-25 page conference paper which I will have to defend in order to graduate) will be about Takarazuka's treatment of Shakespeare plays. As such, I'm particularly zeroing in on trying to find all the Takarazuka Shakespeares.

I have Romeo & Juliet '99, The Tempest, Epiphany, Rome at Dawn, and Lightning in the Daytime. I'm looking for Dream Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, Say It Again, and Winter's Tale. I would love to see, but am not sure if I'll be able to find Antony & Cleopatra, Kiss Me Kate, and West Side Story. If anyone, especially those in Japan, has leads on any of these recordings (or programs from any of them, I have no Shakespeare programs) I would be deeply grateful if you could point me in the right direction. Also, if there are glaring holes in this list, please let me know!

Arigato gozaimasu.

(Seriously, I'm going to bed now. I have to go to bed now. I have to be up at 8:15. I am going. To. Bed.)

P.S. Dear Diary. Killed nine fruit flies while standing at my bathroom sink to brush my teeth. Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that there were more than nine fruit flies available for killing in my bathroom while I brushed my teeth?

I Cannot Hide What I Am

I must be sad when I have cause and smile
at no man's jests, eat when I have stomach and wait
for no man's leisure, sleep when I am drowsy and
tend on no man's business, laugh when I am merry and
claw no man in his humour...
I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in
his grace, and it better fits my blood to be
disdained of all than to fashion a carriage to rob
love from any: in this, though I cannot be said to
be a flattering honest man, it must not be denied
but I am a plain-dealing villain. I am trusted with
a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I
have decreed not to sing in my cage. If I had my
mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do
my liking: in the meantime let me be that I am and
seek not to alter me.
