bookelfe, it turns out that Esther Friesner's Helen of Troy JFic is exactly what I needed after Fragile Eternity. I think you'd like these books(Nobody's Princess and Nobody's Prize). Helen is spunky and snarky and plays with swords and there's even several boy sidekicks and some lesbian subtext. And some rather delightful reinterpreting of mythology.
And she's doing Nefertiti next! Yay reinterpreted Egyptian history!

Date: 6/17/09 01:31 pm (UTC)I have to admit, I have seen those books in the store, and I had an instinctive gigglefit response at reading the back and seeing Helen of Troy described as spunky, just because that is so the stereotypical catch-all word for "This Heroine Is Independent And Active. SEE? ACTIVE!" They do sound entertaining, though!
